ASTA Study Finds 88 Percent of Agencies Charge Service Fees

ASTA’s (American Society of Travel Agents) just-released 2010 Service Fee Report and 2010 Labor & Compensation Report finds that 88 percent of travel agencies charge service fees and far more agents get salaries rather than work commission only. Those who are paid a mix of commission and salary still get 75 percent of their pay in salary on average...
Ever-changing market forces have pushed many agencies to expand their service. According to ASTA’s 2010 Service Fee Report, of the agencies that have fees, 94 percent charge for air bookings, 63 percent charge for making rail reservations and 61 percent assess a fee for trip planning
